MOVIE REVIEWS - 1975
There is really only one film to talk about from 1975: JAWS.
While STAR WARS changed the very idea of what movies are in 1977, Steven Spielberg's JAWS showed that millions of people were happy to venture to their local cinema if what was showing appealed to them, irrepsective of the subject matter. In the case of JAWS, it was the public's desire to come face-to-face with one of their greatest fears, yet remain totally safe & comfortable in their cinema seat. JAWS did huge business, beating THE EXORCIST, which had set a new record two years before with $428 million. JAWS went on to $471 million and has became the first genuine film to signal a shift from film as art (as had been the case in the late 1960s & early 1970s) back to mass entertainment. |
