MOVIE REVIEWS - 1989
1989 was the year that "Franchise" movies became the new norm for Hollywood. Throughout the North American Summer, cinemas were crowded with Genre sequels including, what was presumed at the time to be the final film in the series, INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE, a reteaming of New York's favourite spectral sleuths with GHOSTBUSTERS II and a second outing for Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in LETHAL WEAPON 2. Some sequels got lost in the mix... STAR TREK V: THE FINAL FRONTIER failed to resonate with audiences and nealry killed the movie franchise for good. Timothy Dalton's second adventure as James Bond proved to be his last as LICENSE TO KILL, the 16th movie in the long-running series, also failed to generate much Box Office return. However, one movie dominated the year like no other, creating the template for the 21st Century Global Blockbuster...
