​Due to COVID-19, there was no U.S. theatrical release. Instead, the film will premier on Disney+ on Friday, September 4, 2020 for a $29.99 fee. Theatrical releases will occur in countries without Disney+ (e.g. China).

​Mushu does not appear in the live action remake. Disney made the choice to ensure that the live-action remake stayed true to Chinese culture and traditions. Instead, Disney included a phoenix in the film, which is a sign of peace and prosperity in Chinese culture.

​Director of photography Mandy Walker said Liu Yifei performs 90% of all her stunts as Mulan: horse riding, sword fighting, martial arts, and battle scenes.

MULAN (2020) STORY SYNOPSIS

When the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army to defend the country from Northern invaders, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father.
