1987 movie highlights

1987 had everything any self-respecting Genre fan would want... Science Fiction, Horror, Fantasy, Action, Drama. While the Box Office wasn't as big for genre movies compared to the years when a STAR WARS or INDIANA JONES film was in release, 1987 marked a real turning-point, espcecially for Science Fiction movies. The likes of PREDATOR, ROBOCOP, the very-much under-rated THE HIDDEN along with THE RUNNING MAN were grittier, more downbeat affairs that made Sci-Fi less about galaxies far, far away and more about the dangers of the world around us... The Horror genre also had a big year. A third NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET movie demeemed the franchise, a second EVIL DEAD expanded the original premise dramatically, John Carpenter deivered PRINCE OF DARKNESS and English Writer Clive Barker tried his hand at a spot of film making...

​In the year 2019, America is a totalitarian state where the favorite television program is "The Running Man" -- a game show in which prisoners must run to freedom to avoid a brutal death.
