MOVIE REVIEWS - 1986
1986 was one of the weakest years in terms of the number of Genre titles released in the 1980s... However, the titles that were released, especailly those that were sequels, have come to be regarded as Classics. At the top of the list was James Cameron's ALIENS. The sequel to Ridley Scott's 1979 ALIEN had everything, winning critical acclaim for Sigourney Weaver's return as Ellen Ripley and also scoring huge Box Office success with Cameron pushing the franchise into new, much more Action-driven territory. The STAR TREK movie franchise also scored big, celebrating Gene Roddenberry's brainchild with the Leonard Nimoy, Harve Bennett & Nicholas Meyer inspisred fish-out-of-water story, as William Shatner's James T. Kirk and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise travel back in time to later 20th Century San Francisco to save the whales! David Cronenberg found mainstream cinema success as he transformed Jeff Goldblum and reinterpreted the 1950s Horror of THE FLY...
