MOVIE REVIEWS - 1988
1988 was remarkably similar to 1987, in as much as the reliance upon sequels and "name" stars continued to drive Box Office success. Stallone was back with RAMBO III, Clint Eastwood pulled the Magnum out of the holster for a fifth "Dirty Harry" outing in THE DEAD POOL and Jason Vorhees, Michael Myers and Fredy Krueger all returned to slash their way across cinema screens. Michael Keaton ganrnered attention in Tim Burton's BEETLEJUICE, Robert DeNiro and Charles Grodin teamed-up for the massively under-rated MIDNIGHT RUN and new Horror icon came into being with "Chucky", the possessed toy doll, in CHILD'S PLAY. While commercially successful mainstream films such as RAIN MAN, COMING TO AMERICA, BIG and TWINS all dominated, the two biggest Genre releases for the year were the groundbreaking WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT and DIE HARD featuring popular television actor Bruce Willis in only his second genuine leading man movie role...
